Two Questions
By Brother Scott 6/18/26
There is a couple of questions I want to ask all of you. And, I want you to really think about the questions.
QUESTION NUMBER 1: What can we give to someone, that wasn’t first given to us?
Again … What can we give to someone, that wasn’t first given to us?
The answer is Nothing! There is absolutely nothing that we can give to anyone, that wasn’t first given to us.
Allow me to explain: Let’s go all the way back to the beginning.
Genesis 1:26: Then God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”
God made the heavens, and the earth, and everything on earth. Then he made us. Genesis 2:7 says
7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
And what is the first thing He did after He gave us life? He gave us dominion over all the earth. Genesis 1:29-30 says
29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
God gave us the earth and all of its fullness! Every single thing.
But … He also gave us a command: Genesis 2:16-17
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
With this command, God also gave us a choice. LOL! Unfortunately, that didn’t work out too well for mankind. But, notice God said “for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” He didn’t say if. He said “for in the day”. He already knew that we were going to eat of it! The choice we made to disobey by eating that fruit was the beginning of sin. And sin brought death. Paul says in Romans 5:12-14
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
The one who was to come. Now, in the beginning God gave us life; He gave us the world; He gave us everything, and it just wasn’t enough. Brothers, how much is enough? Apparently the entire world and everything in it wasn’t enough. What does it take to please us?
So God in His infinite love and mercy gave us the greatest gift of all!!! In Romans 5:15 Paul says:
15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
God gave us His Son!!!
Because of our disobedience, we were separated from God. We were condemned by our sins all the way from the beginning with Adam. But thanks be to our Lord, and our Savior Jesus Christ, that separation is no more: we’re not condemned; we’ve been reconciled. Isaiah’s prophecy in 1:18 is fulfilled “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, though they are red like crimson they shall become like wool.” We are redeemed my brothers!!! What a Gift!
Romans 5:18 says
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
Life!!! What more could God give us? He gave us life; He gave us the world; he gave us His only Son; He gave us Himself!!! What more can He give?
Now this brings me to my next question. Since God has given us everything, …
QUESTION NUMBER 2: What can we give to God?
Again … What can we give to God?
Paul says in Romans 12:1
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
Present your bodies as a living sacrifice … In the same way that Christ gave Himself up to be a living sacrifice for us, we too are supposed to give ourselves up.
Jesus tells us in John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus is the way. And what is that way? Perfect obedience even to the cross. Jesus showed us the way.
Paul tells us in Hebrews 12:2
2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Jesus, the perfecter of our faith, endured the cross!!!
Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:38-39
38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
In hearing this, it almost sound like God wants us to die. Funny thing is, God does want us to die, but only to our selfish and sinful ways, so we can truly live!!!
Paul says in Romans 6: 6-10
6 We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death He died He died to sin, once for all, but the life He lives He lives to God.
“The Life He lives, He lives to God. So again my brothers, I ask you, what can we give to God???
Paul tells us. Jesus tells us. And as stubborn, and hard headed as we may be, the truth remains. Ourselves!!! Not only should we want to, but we must. We must “Present our bodies a living sacrifice”; we must “Pick up our cross and follow Jesus”; we mustGIVE OURSELVES TO GOD!!! It’s the only way He can fix us, our brokenness, our selfishness, our pridefulness, our SINFULNESS! I beg you brothers, open up your hearts, and let God in! God gave you everything, including Himself! Now is the time; today is the day! GIVE YOURSELVES TO GOD!!! AMEN
